For those without power from this weekend’s ice storm, help is coming. However, more winter weather tonight could impede efforts.
Crews were working yesterday to restore power to thousands of customers in north Mississippi after an ice storm.
Ron Stewart, spokesman for Electric Power Associations of Mississippi, says about 7,000 association customers were without power, mainly in DeSoto and Marshall counties.
Entergy Mississippi spokeswoman Mara Hartmann said yesterday evening that about 1,300 Entergy customers were without power, down from a peak of 5,093.
The figure doesn’t include Entergy or municipal systems in the area.
John Moore III, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says rising temperatures Sunday thawed the ice, but residents in extreme north Mississippi could see more freezing rain and sleet Monday night.
He says there was a chance that some portions of northwestern Mississippi could see sleet Sunday night, but it’s more likely to be rain.
