HOME RUN! Tupelo lands 2014 national softball convention

December 12, 2013

Like a number of communities across the state, the city of Tupelo has targeted sports and sports-related events as source of new money into the community. And officials have snagged a gem.

The city of Tupelo has won a bid to host a national softball convention in 2014.

Mayor Jason Shelton and Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Neal McCoy attended the Independent Softball Association and Senior Softball USA National Convention this past week to lobby for the 2014 convention.

Shelton tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that the five-day event will bring state, regional and national softball directors to the city along with equipment suppliers and others interested in hosting ISA and SSUSA softball events.

Shelton says CVB staff spent days prior to the conference learning details and logistics necessary to hold a successful event in Tupelo, along with finding the best way to convince the group city was the best fit.

This year’s conference was held in Charlotte, N.C.

Thank you so much for this article! Tupelo is definitely a major player in the Convention/Conference arena and we appreciate you letting all of MS know!

We are very proud of Seth Gaines of the Tupelo Convention & Visitors Bureau and all of us that have worked together as a city-wide team to make this happen!

We plan to show ISA/SSUSA some serious “Tupelo Spirit” and down-home Mississippi hospitality!
