JSU to hold grand opening of Innovate Faculty Digital Space

Jackson State University will celebrate the grand opening of Innovate — a one-stop-shop for faculty and staff to create and disseminate digital content — on Feb. 6 during the 2nd Annual Democratization of Cyberlearning Summit.

JSUfinal 2013Innovate’s grand opening is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, on the first floor of the H.T. Sampson Library. The center is equipped with wireless, multimedia technology including touch-screen Mondopads, podcast recording devices and collaborative workspaces to help faculty move from concept to design to implementation in one space.

Innovate will serve as the new home for academic IT and distance learning. It is the location for continual faculty development and training. The center is the first phase of the library’s transformation into a modern digital intellectual commons. The second phase is Create, a space for students to complete digital projects and assignments. Create will open in fall 2014

The summit will be held Feb. 6-7 in the JSU Student Center. Leaders in the area of cyberlearning will convene to focus on the convergence of technology and communication in today’s learning communities.

Some 100 representatives from universities across the country are expected to attend the summit.

Discussion topics include implementation of faculty development initiatives, deployment of mobile platforms, wireless infrastructure, course creation and cyberlearning assessment.
