BILOXI, Mississippi — Huntsville Stars general manager Buck Rogers will assume the same role in Biloxi next year when the minor league baseball team relocates to the Gulf Coast to play in the Southern League.

Owner Ken Young introduced Rogers, 54, at a news conference Tuesday at the Biloxi Visitors Center. The Biloxi Baseball team is scheduled to begin play next April. Site preparation has begun for a new stadium to be built on U.S. 90 across the street from the Beau Rivage Casino and Resort.

Rogers, a Wisconsin native, has a reputation for over-the-top promotions, including a “Second Amendment Night” last July in which three firearms were to be raffled off. The promotion was cancelled “in the best interest of baseball” after receiving negative national attention. He is in his seventh season with the Stars.

His wife of 24 years, Babs, is from the Gulf Coast and works in the Stars front office.
