RIDGELAND, Mississippi — Digital Quest is launching the first course in a new series of courses using SolidWorks and 3D printers. The “Projects in 3D Design” course is designed to teach the process of design engineering, integrating the design and industry standard tools.
The target audience for the course is both high-school and community college students. Students taking these courses learn to design for and use 3D printers for rapid prototyping also known as “Additive Manufacturing.”
“Projects in 3D Design” is designed to give students experience in industry design, duplication, modeling, and prototyping. Students step into the role of real designers and engineers to guide a design from imagination to prototype using measuring, design, and solid modeling tools through real world applications and case studies. “Prototyping is not a set of disconnected tools, but rather a system of tools that must be used together and managed; we think it is important prototyping is taught this way too,” Eddie Hanebuth, president of Digital Quest, said in a news release.
A project-based format empowers students to not only learn tools and process but also manage them in the context of a real world engineering solution. Digital Quest has worked with industry experts such as Ranger Boats, Primos, and Ashley Furniture to bring realistic 3D design challenges to the classroom, so students learn skills and processes that lead to engineering jobs.
