Michael Ohr Story

Saw the movie trailer for the Michael Ohr Story this morning. You remember the African-American Ole Miss lineman, who was adopted by a white, upper-middle-class family. Mississippi doesn’t always have a lot of feel good stories, but this is one of them. The movie probably isn’t going to win any Academy Awards, but a good movie for all Mississippians to see. Plus Sandra Bullock is in it. Can you believe she is pushing 50?

I had the pleasure of attending Ole Miss with Mike. He was a nice, well-rounded guy and I think this movie will show just that. HOTTY TODDY! GO REBS!!

  2. Knoxie Says:

Saw the movie today! Such an awesome movie. The story is incredible.

  3. Jan Says:

I saw the movie last night. It’s a good movie but the setting was in Memphis, Tennessee not Oxford, Mississippi.

BTW, I bet to differ with you….We Mississippians have a lot of feel good stories. We just tend not to brag about what we do for each other.

  4. Tammy Greenberg Duble Says:

This movie was very good and I think everybody should see it and I think it was wonderful how a family help a teenager.

    Hi,
Just saw the movie about an hr. ago. Sandra was great, she looks lovely, so young. The kid who played her son was adorable; I do hope he & Mike’s relationship was not inflated 4 the movie. I wondered if the daughter “really” didn’t care what her classmates were saying about Michael@ their school????? I’d also like to know what happened to him(Michael) as a child, which caused him to B removed from his Mother’s residence, in that it was merely referenced in the movie & what type of relationship does he gave with the family (Touy) or spelled similar today, if any 2-day?

  6. cissy969 Says:

Saw the movie today ..Was inspired to see it by their appearance on the Oprah show last week…The Touhy Family along with Sandra Bullock told the story.Michael and the family remains that a family..Wonderful story wish we could see more of that kind of love and understanding among people

  7. kalola Says:

Saw the movie last night. Great movie! In the movie it showed how his mother was on drugs and when he and his brother were taken away when he was about 8. I can only imagine from the pictures at the end, he and the Touhy family do have a close relationship. Everyone should see this movie and all think about how we can help these underpriviledged kids one way or another.

  8. Vicki Denton Says:

Loved the movie and the story. I would love to know more about the family — I think some of “Hollywood” may have been added. I lived in Memphis 20+ years ago and there was definitely a separate line for white and black. I would think there was much more sadness to Michael than was portrayed in the movie, and wonder where his real mother is today. In any case, everyone should see the movie.

  9. Barbara Fozard Says:

I saw the movie last night and it was fabulous! A “must see” for all Christians for sure. We love good, clean, good-ending stories — especially ones that are based on truth — like this one! My husband works in prison ministry and wants to start a half-way house for after their release. After seeing this movie, I really want to help make it happen! I know that this family had “money” which always helps — but ALL of us can contribute SOMEWAY if we really want to — even if it’s just “befriending them.” The movie showed at the end how they are all still a close family today. That is so touching. I wonder if Michael ever married and/or has children of his own today. WOW! What a great testimony.

  10. Raven Fan Says:

Just saw the movie today and I cried like a baby. It’s defintiely a feel good movie in time for Christmas. The actor who portrayed Michael Oher was awesome. For Michael Oher to grow up and be subjected to crime, gangsters and drugs and not having been affected by it is a true miracle in itself. The way his biological mother taught him to close his eyes and not look back on yesterday is inspirational despite the addiction she had and not even remembering who Michael’s father was. What an inspiration the Tuoy’s are despite all the issues with Michael choosing their alma mater!
