Caterpillar to close Oxford plant, eliminate 240 jobs


By JACK WEATHERLY Caterpillar Inc. announced Thursday that it will shut down its Oxford plant and eliminate 240 jobs. The shutdown will take 12 to 18 months and will not affect the Peoria, Ill.-based  heavy-equipment manufacturer’s operations in Corinth and Booneville, said spokeswoman Rachel Potts. Joey Langston asks for bribery conviction to be tossed

OXFORD — A former Booneville attorney is asking a federal judge to vacate his conviction for conspiracy to bribe a state judge. Joey Langston pleaded guilty to the charge in 2008, served prison time and completed court ordered probation in the case. Acco to add 162-job call center in Booneville

BOONEVILLE, Miss. — Acco Brands will add a 162-employee call center at its Booneville factory and distribution center. The company announced the $1.6 million investment Tuesday. Officials announce Caterpillar expansion

CORINTH — Officials say a new facility for Caterpillar will house warehouse and logistics operations and create 35 jobs over the next three years. Gov. Date set for Keenum's sentence in bank fraud case

Once prominent attorney Thomas D. Keenum Sr. will be sentenced Dec. 30 for federal bank fraud. The 71-year-old Keenum pleaded guilty in August 2010 to a scheme to defraud BancorpSouth of Booneville through a $135,447 loan. He faces up to 30 years in prison and $1 million in fines.
