DAVID DALLAS: Cochran vs. McDaniel, the final chapter

Perhaps now, nearly a year later, the final chapter has been written in one of the ugliest Republican primary races in U.S. Senate history. It was just too tawdry a tale to end after aging and “established” Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran pulled out a controversial victory over the state’s Tea Party darling, Chris McDaniel. The Tale of the Mississippi’s Republican ...

DAVID DALLAS: Getting a grip on LGBT issues

Last week Bruce Jenner, the Olympic gold-medal winner, admitted to ABC’s Diane Sawyer and a national television audience that he is transgender. What that means is Bruce Jenner, despite his masculine accoutrement, feels more like a woman and would like to identify himself as one. Jenner won the decathlon in 1976, the most grueling event in the games, requiring strength, ...

DAVID DALLAS — Cannabis for the rest of us

Did you know the federal government has been growing marijuana in Mississippi for over 30 years? For government use? When he realizes the mail-order scam is a con to steal what little he owns, Fred ...

Barbour-Swoope team played .500 ball, at best

Thank heavens there is still a bright line between a news story and a column. Neither is better than the other. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. A news story is supposed to be factual. Hence, it carries the mantle of credibility, which should never drop to the ground, like the American flag. Play fast and loose with the facts, ...

DAVID DALLAS: Wicker, Cochran and the Iran-a-Muck letter

Forty-seven United States Senators, including Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker, signed a letter recently to “The Leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran did not. The letter set out to explain the nuances of our U.S. Constitution to “The Leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” The letter also described how the Senate might scuttle any agreement ...

DAVID DALLAS: Who in the Hell are We?

This is not the Ole Miss Hotty Toddy cheer, but instead a more serious question requiring a lot more than Flim Flam and Bim Bam. Although that, along with plenty of other spin, will be shared as a result of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s Report on the CIA’s “Enhanced Interrogation.” Everyone should study the report for themselves. We should make ...
