HMO executive asserts health care costs too high

Are Mississippi doctors and hospitals getting rich at the expense of the poorest population in the nation? And at the expense of Mississippi businesses that provide health care insurance for their employees?

Michael Muchnicki, president and CEO of United Healthcare of Mississippi, the largest health maintenance organization (HMO) in the state, says that Mississippi has some of the highest HMO health care costs in the country both in the utilization rate and the unit cost of providing different health care services.

Muchnicki said United Healthcare pays Mississippi doctors fees that are 30% higher than the national average.
