New program will help Mississippi companies looking for skilled workers

Economic development has always been about more than simply attracting a new smokestack, so to speak, to a community’s industrial park skyline. However, attracting – and announcing – new business and industry garners the most attention from the press and the public. Economic developers are often criticized, more often than not, wrongly, for not doing enough to help existing companies. But, times are changing. While Mississippi economic developers and local leaders are working hard to sell the state to folks looking to relocate, equal attention is now being focused on those companies who’ve been doing business here for a few years – or a few decades.
