USM gets MDOT funding for new center

HATTIESBURG — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has presented the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) School of Construction and the Department of Economic and Workforce Development with a $50,000 grant to contribute to the development of a new transportation program.

USM was recently approved by the State Board of Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) to develop and provide a collaborative, interdisciplinary research and outreach program to support the economic development of the region. The Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation will be a resource to port and land transportation authorities involved with major trade and transportation developments, and will meet the academic needs of students and professionals. This program will teach the advanced skills needed to address the challenges and opportunities created by global trade.

USM recently named Dr. Tulio Sulbaran as the director of the Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation.
