VT Halter lands grants

PASCAGOULA and MOSS POINT — U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) reports the award of more than $2.87 million in federal grants to support shipyard improvements in Pascagoula and Moss Point.

Three grants were awarded to VT Halter Marine Inc. for capital improvements at its shipyard operations in Pascagoula and Moss Point.

The Pascagoula shipyard was awarded $1.56 million for a 450-ton transporter and portable retractable platen cover. The Moss Point shipyard received $868,011 for a CNC burning table and $436,406 for a press brake and CNC burning table.

The funding was approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration as part of its Assistance to Small Shipyards grant program. In all, the Maritime Administration awarded $17.1 million to small shipyards in 10 states. Grantees are all shipyards employing fewer than 600 workers
