BankPlus

Recognition is nothing new for BankPlus.

After all, the Ridgeland-based financial institution has been named to the Mississippi Business Journal’s Best Places to Work list three years in a row, one of only three companies in the state to claim that distinction.

BankPlus was founded in 1909 as Citizens Bank & Trust Company in the tiny Mississippi Delta town of Belzoni.  The name was changed in Sept. 1994, when Southeast Mississippi Bank in Quitman was merged into the banking system and extended the service area to the southern part of the state.

As a result, the bank has experienced exponential growth over the last 10 years, resulting in the hiring of new employees, and banking offices located across Mississippi, from DeSoto County to the Gulf Coast.

Today, in the midst of celebrating its 100th anniversary, Bankplus has over 60 offices in 33 Mississippi communities and more than $2 billion in assets.

“We are proud to reach this anniversary, marking 100 years of service to the people of Mississippi, a milestone made more meaningful given the current economic climate,” said Bill Ray, the bank’s president and CEO.  “The success and strength of BankPlus can be attributed to our high-performance employees that have an unwavering commitment to customer care and the communities we serve.”

BankPlus purchased Home Savings Bank of Meridian in 1996, followed by the acquisition of the Belzoni branch of NBC Bank and The Mortgage Corporation of Mississippi.

Over the past decade, BankPlus has established operational and technological capabilities that both accommodate and affect the bank’s growth.  In 2003, the bank made state headlines when Nissan North America selected BankPlus as its choice to open a full-service office in the new Nissan plant in Canton.

In 2005, BankPlus opened its first banking office in DeSoto County, and within two years had opened seven full-service banks in one of Mississippi’s fastest-growing counties.

Ray says the foundation for the bank’s success stems from its employees.

“We provide our employees with an exciting environment where their work is meaningful and challenging, and where the rewards go far beyond base compensation,” he said.  “We work with every employee to establish personal goals and performance standards, and then provide them with a scorecard to measure success and reward their success.”

BankPlus offers extended drive-thru hours at most offices, wealth management services, online and mobile banking, a full range of personal and business banking products and recently opened WellnessPlus, the company’s workplace wellness service for employees.

Ray’s vision for the bank remains the same – continued growth and outstanding service to the people of Mississippi.

“We will remain an independent community bank by focusing on attracting, developing and retaining high-performance employees, who will work together as a team to ensure the best possible service for our customers,” he said.  “Each one of us has unique abilities, skills and talents that when pooled together, will enable BankPlus to attain high performance as an institution.”
