Kinetic Staffing, LLC

Alan Lange saw a need.

In response to the enormous human capital needs generated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the Millsaps College graduate began Kinetic Staffing to help businesses involved in servicing the recovery effort and provide them with long-term contract employees.

Lange had enjoyed a successful career in the legal recruiting business prior to the devastating storm and decided the company would be dedicated to helping rebuild communities by providing quality jobs and benefits to those in transition from Katrina.

He says Kinetic Staffing adheres to two core tenets.

“First, placing the right person in the right position is life changing.  It affects the employee, the family, the business they work for and the community as a whole,” Lange said.  “Our vision is to positively affect people and businesses in this way.

“Secondly, Kinetic aspires to be a good corporate citizen and we encourage all of our employees, even contract employees, to volunteer and help their communities in ways they feel called to do so.”

Kinetic Staffing seeks to provide custom solutions for law firms by not only providing the right people but also by learning its clients’ business and becoming advisors and partners in their success.

“Both our long-term staffing and executive recruiting businesses have grown by client referral to provide services to others as well,” he said.  “Those would include technology companies, insurance agencies, architectural firms and other related fields.

“The common thread to our clientele is placing quality middle and senior level executives in professional service businesses.”

The company serves primarily law and accounting firms throughout the Southeast, working with clients in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee.  Lange says Kinetic Staffing is selective about its clientele and how it works with them.

“Our executive recruiting is partially retainer-based, which is a very different methodology for recruiting in this area of the country,” he said.  “We take a few searches that are usually very difficult in nature, get a small retainer and negotiate exclusively on the positions we are hired to fill and focus all of our resources on just a few things.”

Kinetic places a heavy emphasis on recruiting attorneys for emerging growth law firms.  Services include candidate identification, initial candidate contact, financial and practice evaluation, initial interview process and compensation review and negotiation.

Before launching Kinetic, Lange founded Redundant Networks Inc., a managed service provider focused on network disaster prevention.  He also authored a process patent for the technology upon which the company’s operations were based.  Through his association with Redundant, Lange developed relationships with tax-advantaged and venture capital investment firms in the South and around the nation.

He says the biggest challenge for Kinetic Staffing is balancing opportunities for growth.

“In the life cycle of the company, we have learned how to properly focus our effort and resources for maximum benefit of our clients,” he said.  “As our business grows, it’s always tempting to serve more clients and provide more services as the client base grows through referral.”

Currently, the company has 50 people on the payroll, with 45 working onsite at client locations.  Lange admits that the past year has been challenging, with very few placements of law firm partners in Mississippi due partly to the poor economy and other dynamics.
