Balch & Bingham, LLP
Armin J. Moeller Jr., a partner at Balch & Bingham, LLP, Jackson, is known for his ability to present complex legal subjects in a manner that is understandable to a professional or business group, administrative agency, judge or jury.
“Armin brings decades of experience and prudent wisdom to bear on each of the matters he undertakes for clients, whether it be brief telephone advice or full-blown litigation,” says colleague David Thomas, a partner at Balch & Bingham. “He has the drive and perseverance to find ways to succeed in complex cases where the odds appear to compel defeat, while conducting himself within the bounds of law and professional obligations. Although it may well be lost on his courtroom adversaries, those who know Armin well know him to have a heart the size of Texas, shown through his patience, fairness and kindness.”
Moeller’s practice focuses primarily on labor and employment law issues, including health law, business litigation, arbitration and contracts. As recognition of his influence, he was listed in Human Resources Executives “Top 100: The Nation’s Most Powerful Employment Attorneys” in June 2010.
An AV-rated attorney by Martindale Hubbell since 1984, Moeller is in frequent demand as a speaker at professional and business associations regarding labor, employment and litigation subjects. He has been program chair of the MultiState Labor & Employment Law Seminar, a nationally recognized continuing legal education program, from 1984 through 2010.
Few attorneys can claim they have brought back to the state revenues in the hundreds of millions of dollars. But Moeller was the lead counsel for the Mississippi State Tax Commission in State Tax Commission v. American Management Systems Inc., Aug. 23, 2000, which resulted in a jury verdict in favor of the Mississippi State Tax Commission for $474.5 million.
Moeller successfully settled the case five days later for $185 million to be paid over a 13-year period.
Moeller is listed in Band 1 of Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Labor & Employment. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, 1988 to present. He is a fellow, College of Labor and Employment Lawyers since 2000 and is a Fellow of The Mississippi Bar Foundation.
