House lawmakers pass eminent domain ban

JACKSON — The Mississippi House has passed bill that would ban the government from taking private land for private development.

It’s similar to a proposed constitutional amendment that will be on the statewide ballot this November.

The House passed the eminent domain ban yesterday, and it moves to the Senate for more debate.

Gov. Haley Barbour has vetoed a bill with eminent domain restrictions in the past, saying it would hurt Mississippi’s efforts to attract industry.
