Miracle-Gro plant getting official welcome to Pearl

Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. will mark the official opening of its $17 million manufacturing plant in Pearl at 1 p.m. Friday with a ribbon cutting and remarks from a line up of local dignitaries.
The plant, in a nearly 300,000 square-foot facility formerly occupied by the Clorox Co., sits on 64 acres at 550 Gulf Line Road. Operations started in January with production of a Miracle-Gro lineup of lawn and garden product brands that include Scotts, Ortho, and Roundup.
The plant employs 73 workers and plans to ramp up to 95 with production increases, the company says.
The plant includes a 128,000 square-foot manufacturing area, a 142,000 square-foot warehouse area and a 22,000 square-foot office area.
