Gaming Commission executive director Larry Gregory tells The Sun Herald that the casino will likely be on the agenda for the panel’s April 28 meeting.
The casino is smaller and more casual than the $700-million resort Caesars Entertainment started in 2007 in partnership with Buffett. Caesars stopped construction in 2008 when the recession hit.
Buffett, who was born in Pascagoula, and other investors proposed the $48-million casino resort in January and moved it from the beach in Biloxi to the Back Bay. The new Margaritaville is proposed to be built in phases, starting with a small casino, a restaurant, events center and marina.
