Margaritaville to get special hearing in front of Commission

BILOXI — Plans for Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant will go before the Mississippi Gaming Commission during a special meeting yesterday in Biloxi.

Developers, including singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and Coast casino veteran Tom Brosig, are asking the Gaming Commission to approve the design and financing for a casino resort on Back Bay. They also are seeking approval to proceed with construction.

The Sun Herald reports the plans approved by the Biloxi Planning Commission and City Council call for a $48-million resort with a casino, a Margaritaville-themed restaurant, retail, events center and marina.

The casino is smaller and more casual than the $700-million resort Caesars Entertainment started in 2007 in partnership with Buffett. Caesars stopped construction in 2008 when the recession hit.
