State's unemployment rate held steady in October

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — Mississippi’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 10.6 percent in October, as compared with a month ago. That’s according to seasonally adjusted figures released today by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

The state figure for September 2010 was 10.2 percent. The nation’s seasonally adjusted rate for this October was 9 percent.

Rankin County had the lowest jobless rate at 6.6 percent followed by Madison County at 7.2 percent. The highest rates were 19.1 percent in Clay County and 18.1 percent in Holmes County.

The number of people listed as unemployed rose to 144,300 in September from 134,600 in August. The civilian labor force, which includes the employed and those actively seeking work, was at 1.215 million in October.
