BILOXI — Harrison County supervisors have voted 3-2 to uphold an appeal by residents in the western part of the county who opposed a dirt pit in their neighborhood.
The Sun Herald reports the people who live on and near the site told the board the area already has four dirt pits, one of which is still active, and the trucks have torn up the road.
Three of the four pits in that area were dug before permits were required and are grandfathered in. One of the pits was used as a site for debris after Hurricane Katrina at FEMA’s request.
The Planning Commission recently approved the request for the dirt pit.
