BILOXI — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has issued a precautionary beach closure for one sampling station in Harrison County.
The area of the closure is at Station 12A, Biloxi West Central Beach near Rodenburg Avenue. The extent is from Travia Street east to Iberville Drive.
The city of Biloxi reported to MDEQ that a pump station was inactive and that sewage entered the beach area at Station 12A. The city is operating a bypass pump to eliminate the overflow and are working on permanent repairs. It’s possible the pump station was damaged by lightning during last night’s storms.
