Officials extend bidding deadline for Coast marina project

BAY ST. LOUIS — The deadline for bids on the Bay. St. Louis marina project has been extended to Aug. 8.

Officials tell the Sea Coast Echo the two-week extension was granted so other interested contractors could bid on the project.

Engineers say 71 bid packets have been sent out.

The entire project, including the harbor, reconstruction of the Jimmy Rutherford Pier and beach improvements, is estimated to cost $20.2 million.

Depending on where the bids come in, the city may elect to add additional touches to the harbor, such as a “day dock,” extra decorative lighting, a shaded area and composite decking on the docks.

Construction is expected to take 18 months, meaning it will likely be open for the 2014 boating season.
