JACKSON — Citing banned drugs and “unsafe additives,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) refused more shipments of imported catfish during the first half of 2012 than for all of 2011, according to The Catfish Institute.
An analysis of FDA data by The Catfish Institute found 25 catfish import refusals during January 2012 through June 2012, compared to 19 for the full year 2011.
Of the 25 import refusals to-date this year, 22 originated in China and one each from Vietnam, Taiwan and Nigeria.
