Jesse Houston has been appointed as chef de cuisine of City Grocery in Oxford. Houston, a graduate with honors of Texas Culinary Academy (Le Cordon Bleu), is an alumnus of some of the country’s top kitchens, including those of chefs Wolfgang Puck, Stephen Pyles and Tim Byres. He assumed the executive chef position at Parlor Market after chef Craig Noone’s untimely passing.
Houston, a native of Dallas, Texas, realized his passion for cooking as a teenager under the encouragement of his single father. An avid reader of cookbooks, Houston experimented with ingredients at home before working in some of the best restaurants in Dallas starting at age 18. He earned the opportunity to attend the Texas Culinary Academy (Le Cordon Bleu) in Austin, while working at Asti, an Italian trattoria, which fostered his interest in house-made pastas and rustic, regional Italian cuisine.
When he is not working in the City Grocery kitchen, Houston can be found making plans to transplant his beloved all-season garden, chicken coop and beehive to his new home in Oxford with his wife, Rachel.
