Mangia Bene caters to EXPO

The first order of business at the state’s largest business-to-business EXPO at the Jackson Trade Mart is putting your best foot forward presenting your business and interacting with other business people who are current or potential customers or vendors. But there are also a number of culinary treats in store for EXPO attendees.

No one needs to go away hungry with the great food offerings that begin with the kickoff breakfast Thursday, April 4 at 8:30 a.m. at the Jackson Trade Mart for alumni of the 50 Leading Business Women of Mississippi. Food for that and the other events will be from Mangia Bene Catering, which operates three popular restaurants in the area, Bravo!, Broad Street, and Sal & Mookie’s.

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. “We agree!” says Aven Whittington III, caterer for Mangia Bene Catering. “To help EXPO attendees get going, we plan on serving a delicious frittata with crumbled Italian sausage, fire roasted peppers and onions, and cheese. We will also serve Broad Street’s famous cheese grits, minted fruit salad, and muffins from our pastry chef.”

On the lunch menu is one of Whittington’s personal favorites: Boursin stuffed chicken breast (straight off the BRAVO! menu) served with garlic-roasted potatoes and a mixed field green salad with balsamic vinaigrette. There will also be the ever-popular fresh baked bread from Broad Street Baking Company. And the meal finishes with a trio of Mississippi-themed desserts from their pastry chef, Jennifer Adelsheimer.

And if you like to try a little bit of a lot of different types of great food, don’t miss the popular Business After Hours event. A little something from each of the three restaurants will be served.

“There will be lots of surprises,” Whittington said. “Be prepared. Each year we try to expand our EXPO offerings to insure that attendees have the best culinary experience they can have.

“All of our food will be prepared using only the finest and freshest available ingredients. Frankly, I think that claim is made by a lot of restaurants and caterers, but few truly hit the mark. All of our food is made from scratch.

“We even bake our own breads from start to finish. How many companies in our market can truly claim that?

“We are looking forward to providing this year’s EXPO attendees with lots of fresh and delicious food.”

With three restaurants at the disposal of Mangia Bene Catering, they have more full-time chefs cooking for them than anyone else in the market.

“That fact alone really shines through in the food that we serve,” Whittington said. “Service is our other hallmark. All of our staff members work for us full time. No weekend warriors here. We have a seasoned staff ready to serve. I really think that’s an important distinction for us as a catering company.”

Like other businesses, Magnia Bene Catering finds the EXPO a great place to get exposure to the business community in Jackson.

“Where else can you meet business leaders from all over the state, get ideas to improve your business, and network all in the same day?” Whittington asks.

“Year after year we have picked up clients as a result of the EXPO. I’m sure this year will be no different. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the year’s MBJ EXPO 2013.”
