HATTIESBURG — Hattiesburg City Council has adopted an ordinance to open downtown streets to the sale and consumption of beer and light wine during special events.
The ordinance allows retailers with a current permit to sell beer and light wine on downtown streets closed for special events such as HUBFEST and the fall and spring downtown Art Walks.
The Hattiesburg American reports the ordinance also removes penalties for possessing or consuming beer and light wine on downtown streets during city-sanctioned events.
City Council president Kim Bradley said the ordinance will level the playing field for downtown businesses to sell beer and light wine during special events.
