MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST — It looks like there’s going to be a four-candidate race May 28 for the state House of Representatives District 95 seat.
The deadline to qualify for the special election to fill the seat held by the late Rep. Jessica Upshaw was yesterday, a state holiday.
A spokeswoman with the Secretary of State’s Office tells The Sun Herald it’s possible some qualification papers could still arrive, since yesterday was a holiday for state government, but for now, only four have signed up.
Tommy Ballard of Gulfport; Sherri Carr Bevis of Diamondhead; Grant Bower of Diamondhead; and Patricia H. Willis of Diamondhead have signed up for the race.
If no candidate receives a majority, a runoff will be held June 18.
District 95 covers Diamondhead and parts of Harrison and Hancock counties.
