Diamondhead exploring zoning change to allow for casino

DIAMONDHEAD — The Diamondhead Planning Commission will hold a meeting later this month to consider a zoning change to allow a casino at the site of the old Harbor House property.

City manager Richard Rose tells The Sun Herald the meeting will be on June 26 at City Hall.

The planning commission will hear from Jacobs Entertainment, which wants rezoning for 43 parcels there at the former site of the Harbor House condo development, which was heavily damaged by Katrina.

Rose said the zoning change would have to be approved by the planning commission before it would be sent to the city council. The company would have to come back with a specific proposal that the city and the Mississippi Gaming Commission would have to sign off on.
