JACKSON, Miss. – Just in time for Tropical Storm Karen to make landfall this weekend, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) is introducing a smartphone app to stay up to date on health and safety information throughout Mississippi during an emergency.

i phoneThe MS Ready app will keep you informed of breaking health emergencies and safety alerts in real time and is available through the App Store for iPhone and Android.

Features of this app include:

• Push, text or email notification of essential health precautions in a disaster, outbreak, or emergency

• Steps to take to prepare ahead for chemical and biological threats; floods; nuclear incidents; severe weather and natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes

• A list of important MSDH phone numbers and an emergency hotline

• A checklist of items to have on hand should an emergency arise
