Bids are in and being reviewed for new sports complex

baseball picBAY ST. LOUIS — Hancock County officials are looking over bids received for a proposed sports complex.

Century Construction and Realty of Tupelo submitted a bid this week slightly over $11 million; and Mike Rozier Construction of Hattiesburg submitted a bid of $9.85 million.

Supervisors took no action because the bids came in several million dollars over budget.

Supervisor Steve Seymour said the board is going to look at the bids and the project to see if any savings can be found to bring the price down.

In January, supervisors purchased 82 acres of land northwest of Mississippi Highways 603 and 43.

The project is being funded through a Community Development Block Grant.

Officials have proposed a complex of eight baseball/softball fields, 10 soccer fields, and two football fields. Bathrooms, concession stands, and other amenities would also be constructed.

Seymour said supervisors will decide at their next meeting whether to award the project or solicit for new bids.
