THE STATE’S LARGEST BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS NETWORKING EVENT will unveil a new name and a new format when it opens for its 31st year Friday at the Mississippi Trade Mart at the fairgrounds in Jackson.
The MBJ Business Marketplace — formerly the Mississippi Business & Technology EXPO — will now allow vendors to sell their wares on the showroom floor. The event is sponsored by the Mississippi Business Journal and Comcast Business.
The Marketplace opens at 9:30 a.m., and closes at 4 p.m., when the Business After Hours event begins. The Marketplace is open to the public, and admission is free to adults with a business card.

“We’re excited about the changes, and we think the changes to the Business Marketplace will be better for both our vendors and the Marketplace attendees,” said Alan Turner, publisher of the Mississippi Business Journal.
In addition to some vendors offering items for sale, other vendors will be giving away door prizes throughout the day. Also, the Activity Aisle returns for its second year, giving visitors a chance get advice from local experts from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Scheduled in this year’s Activity Aisle are flower arrangement demonstrations by Green Oak Florist, handwriting analysis by Ann Henderson, Dermatology consultations with Jo Ann Godsey; and caricatures for visitors drawn by editorial cartoonist Ricky Nobile.
After 4 p.m., the Marketplace kicks into Business After Hours mode until 6 p.m. Music will be provided by Chris Gill and the Sole Shakers, and food samples will be provided by restaurants such as Mangia Bene, Table 100, Provision 1908 and more.
The MBJ Business Marketplace will feature exhibits and vendors who will showcase products and services from Mississippi and nationwide. This year’s event will also feature a Health Care Heroes breakfast, and the Leaders in Finance luncheon.
A Cyber Café provided by Comcast will visitors’ on-site wireless needs.
The change to allow vendors to sell and showcase their business-to-business merchandise is a result of requests from vendors.
“In recent years, we’ve had numerous requests from businesses who want to offer specific products and services at this event, and after discussion, we thought this would be an excellent way to expand the event and make it more relevant to businesses and attendees alike,” Turner said.
