BILOXI — The city of Biloxi’s new Double-A baseball team will announce its name on Nov. 24.
The franchise is currently operating as the Huntsville (Alabama) Stars of the Southern League. It is to move to Biloxi for the start of the 2015 season.
A $36 million, 5,000-seat stadium is being constructed along U.S. Highway 90 across from the Beau Rivage Resort.
A “Name the Team” contest was held earlier in the year and list of six finalists from more than 4,000 submissions was announced in June. Fans were given the opportunity to vote on the finalists.
Fans who submitted the winning entry will receive two tickets to the team’s first game at MGM Park.
The franchise originated in 1978 as the Nashville Sounds before moving to Huntsville and becoming the Stars in 1985.
