JONES COUNTY — The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado touched down Sunday night in Jones County.
A survey team examined the path of the twister yesterday, estimating it had top winds of 95 mph and was on the ground for 2.7 miles in an area east of Laurel near Masonite Lake.
The team rates the tornado EF-1 on the enhanced Fujita scale. No one was injured.
With a maximum width of 100 yards, the twister damaged a barn and a chicken house and blew a mobile home off its blocks. It also damaged numerous trees.
A second tornado was reported Sunday in Walthall County, but a survey team has been unable to find any damage.
