Farm Bureau honors Sen. Thad Cochran

The Mississippi Farm Bureau has presented its Friend of Farm Bureau Award  to Sen. Thad Cochran (R–Miss.) for his work in the 113th Congress.  This is the 10th consecutive time that Mississippi Farm Bureau has honored Cochran for his commitment to the farmers of Mississippi.

Cochran serves as the ranking member on the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee. He also serves on the Rules and Administration Committee and on the Appropriations Committee. He was cited for his support for the passage of the 2014 Farm Bill. He also supported Sen. John Thune’s amendment and the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2013.

In 1972, Cochran was elected congressman for the Fourth District. He served three terms in the U. S. House of Representative before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978, becoming the first Republican in more than 100 years to win a statewide election in Mississippi. He has since been re-elected five times and is currently serving his sixth term in office.

Mississippi Farm Bureau honored Cochran in 1990 with its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award.
