Longtime Mississippi State Department of Health employee Ann Jackson has been awarded the Carol Pozsik TB Nurse Award by The National Tuberculosis Controllers’ Association and the TB Educator of the Year award by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
These national awards recognize Jackson’s accomplishments and efforts to eliminate tuberculosis in Mississippi. The Carol Pozsik TB Nurse Award is the highest award that can be received from the NTCA and honors nurses who have demonstrated extraordinary skills in educating and increasing awareness of tuberculosis at the local, state and national levels.
“This is a wonderful vote of confidence in the teaching I’ve been doing over the years,” said Jackson. She said she has no intention of changing the way she teaches, but only wants to improve the effectiveness of it.
Jackson has dedicated the past 15 years to tuberculosis prevention and education. In the last four years Jackson completed an average of 78 day-long classroom training sessions, certifying over 2,500 individuals per year, mostly nurses, and training them to identify, treat and properly care for those living with tuberculosis. Course participants consistently praise Jackson’s teaching practices.
