US Foods has opened a 272,000-square-foot distribution center in Flowood that will service 4,000 chefs, restaurants and food-service operators throughout Mississippi and Louisiana, the Rosemont, Ill.-based company said in a release on Monday.

The distributor, which has 60 such facilities across the country, made its first shipment out of Flowood on June 29 and will have a grand opening at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, the release said.

The facility has 308 employees.

Local chefs will be on hand to offer their creations and will be joined by restaurant owners. There will be tours of the plant.

It was not known how many will be employed at the Flowood facility.
