HAMILTON — Contractor KBR will lay off 69 employees at the Tronox plant, according to a letter from the company to the Monroe County Board of Supervisors.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports the layoffs will take effect by the end of the month. Tronox spokesman Bud Greby says the company performed an evaluation to identify opportunities to reduce operating costs and reserve cash. He says the best way they found to do that is to reduce the company’s contractor workforce.
Greby says most day-to-day maintenance activities will transition from the Brown & Root contractors to full-time Tronox employees.
The company is recruiting to fill 13 maintenance technicians and four engineering full-time positions.
