Newk’s Eatery will open its 100th restaurant

Newk’s Eatery will open its 100th restaurant on Monday, halfway to its goal of 200 stores by the end of 2018. The Lake Charles, La., addition to the Jackson-based chain comes 12 years after its founding. It follows the founding in 1989 of McAlister’s Deli by Dr. Don Newcomb, an Oxford dentist, who sold McAlister’s in 1999. McAlister’s now has about 350 locations, according to its website.
