COMING SOON: Daiquiris to go on the Gulf Coast

Daiquiri fans will soon be able to sip their favorite flavor from a go cup while walking around Old Town Bay St. Louis when the Daiquiri Shak opens next month at 112 Court St.

“It’s the first shop of its kind in Hancock County,” said owner Caleb McQueen. “We are a to-go cup city. We want to serve people and have them go back out and enjoy downtown Bay St. Louis.”

The Daiquiri Shak is a partnership of McQueen, wife Carrie and her parents, Rhonda and Gus Bridges. They talked about opening a shop for a while but when the new state law allowing go cups passed, the four got down to business.

“Like a lot of people here we thought how cool it would be to have a daiquiri shop. We really started looking into it when the state passed the to-go cup law. That’s when we started discussing our options,” McQueen said.

The building is being remodeled and will have tall standup tables only. “It’s not going to be a bar and we won’t have live music,” he said. “We want people to come in and get a daiquiri and go back out.”

The owners have applied for a liquor license. No firm opening date or hours of operation have been set.

“We’re finally giving something to the city of Bay St. Louis that a lot of people here have wanted for a long time,” McQueen said. “No more going to Slidell. Everybody is really excited about it and we are excited to be able to do this. That’s the most rewarding thing for all of us.”

The menu will have six flavors of daiquiris, plus nonalcoholic ones along with a small selection of beer and soft drinks. The daiquiris will come in 12-, 20-, 32- and 44-ounce cups.

No drive-through window, though.
