Jim Laird

Jim Laird, a Starkville native and longtime writer and editor, has been promoted to research and executive support editor for Mississippi State University. He is assuming the duties of Joe Farris, who is retiring.

Laird will provide key research and writing executive support for the Office of the President and serve as the liaison to the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and the board’s administrative staff. He will continue to promote MSU’s research and economic development initiatives for the Office of Public Affairs and coordinate communication for the Office of Research and Economic Development.

Previously, Laird was editor of the Jackson-based Mississippi Business Journal where his editorial writing won gold and silver awards from the Alliance of Area Business Publications.

A graduate of Starkville Academy, he holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Mississippi College. Laird and his family live in Starkville, where they are members of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.

His wife, Harriet, is associate director of Public Affairs at MSU, and daughter Hannah is a sophomore microbiology major and member of Kappa Delta sorority. His daughter Harper is a junior at Starkville High School.

… we’d like to ask for your support. More people are reading the Mississippi Business Journal than ever before, but advertising revenues for all conventional media are falling fast. Unlike many, we do not use a pay wall, because we want to continue providing Mississippi’s most comprehensive business news each and every day. But that takes time, money and hard work. We do it because it is important to us … and equally important to you, if you value the flow of trustworthy news and information which have always kept America strong and free for more than 200 years.

If those who read our content will help fund it, we can continue to bring you the very best in news and information. Please consider joining us as a valued member, or if you prefer, make a one-time contribution.
