Nelson Wholesale Service Inc. is locating a pet food and product distribution operation to Columbia in Marion County, investing $2 million and creating 20 jobs.

Nelson Wholesale is moving distribution from Hammond, La., and will begin operation in December in a 100,000-square-foot facility previously occupied by Orleans Furniture. Nelson is based in Brownwood, Texas.

“We are extremely excited to be expanding our distribution footprint by opening our newest warehouse in Columbia,” Nelson Wholesale Chairman John D. Harkey said in a release from the Mississippi Development Authority.

The MDA provided $15,000 for building improvements and equipment relocation. Mississippi Power is providing the company assistance through its energy efficiency program, as well as providing a small business redevelopment rate incentive.
