Company to extend natural gas service in Tunica County

Mississippi officials have approved Atmos Energy’s plan to extend natural gas service to a rural community in Tunica County.

Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley announced that the expansion by Atmos Energy will bring service to 215 homes in the county’s White Oak community.

The project stems from Presley’s push to make more energy options available to as many unserved, rural communities in Mississippi as possible.

Presley praised the cooperation of the Tunica County Board of Supervisors, which invested nearly $200,000 in the $485,000 project to get service into the area.

Construction time for the project is estimated at 90 days.

Last December, natural gas service expanded in parts of DeSoto and four other North Mississippi counties where it was not previously available.
