The Mississippi Department of Transportation recently named Cindy Smith, P.E., State Research Engineer. She will oversee state and national research efforts, pavement management, data collection, nondestructive testing and MDOT’s research library.
Smith received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston (1995) and began working with MDOT as an Engineer in Training (EIT) in the Planning Division in 1996. In 1998, she began working in the Research Division and became the Assistant State Research Engineer in 2009 before being promoted to her new position this year.
Smith is a member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Research Advisory Committee and Transportation Research Board Technology Transfer and General and Emerging Pavement Design committees, as well as the Mississippi Engineering Society.
